Looking back a bit, it’s the Nostalgianack!

One year ago today…

A year ago today was the Meet the Owners party, where we were told we wouldn’t be “wasting our time” if we showed up a couple days later in Chester (for the announcement that we were getting a team). Over 200 people packed the Dark Horse to the rafters that night…I still get goosebumps thinking about it. This is also the night where our nickname for the team, Zolos, comes from. For those unfamiliar with the story, SoB Webmaster Matt Ansbro made nametags reading “2010″ near the end of the night and went around sticking them on people. Owner Nick Sakiewicz saw one of the hastily-written tags and asked what a “zolo” was, and the name stuck.

We gained over a thousand new members that week, more than doubling our base…hundreds upon hundreds of you have shown up to events, donated to our charities, worn scarves around, told a friend or family member…we couldn’t have done any of this without such amazing participation from so many passionate people, and we thank you.

MLS Philly 2010 turns 1

Of course, going along with the aforementioned Meet the Owners night is the franchise’s first birthday on Saturday. There’s also video from that on SoB.tv:

We’re nearly halfway between the announcement and the first real games the team plays. We’ll soon be getting a name and colors, we’ll see the stadium going up, we’ll get jerseys, have the SuperDraft right here in Philly, watch players get signed…it’s going to be a very exciting year. Keep your eyes on the ‘nack for all the news you need to know. And if you still haven’t reserved your season tickets you can do that at mlsphilly2010.com.

Other odds and ends…

A handful of people are making plans to attend the 4/1 US World Cup qualifying match in Nashville as part of the larger US supporters section. If you’re interested, post on the thread on our message board here.

For those asking about scarves…no, none are available right now. We’ll be doing the next set by pre-order once the team colors are announced…it’ll be announced in a future Almanack. We’ll also be doing Delaware Valley Infantry scarves for our US supporters’ club offshoot.
