Well, we’ve got our Union and it feels perfect. Now we have the anticipation of a coach appointment by mid to late June to wait for…and so begins the process of watching our team get built from the ground up. Who do you think it will be? In the attempt to take it one day/week at a time, the next real announcement we have to look forward to will be the unveiling of the WPS squad that will share the Waterfront with us. That’ll happen this Monday. For now, enjoy some more rumblings around the league…
Toronto FC is NOT messing around this season when it comes to that spot in the CONCACAF Champions League (which, in case you missed it, was won by Mexico’s Atlante the other day – I know, I tend to lose track of events I was following as soon as American clubs are out too). The Reds beat the Montreal Impact 1-0 last night and Vancouver last week to take maximum points with only two games remaining. Chad Barrett did the damage on gasp! less than 10 attempts…
Instead of killing you with a sloppy cross-post, here is the link at Center Holds It if you want to continue to follow the success of MLS Newcomers. We’re in Week 9 now and Chris Pontius has the lead for MLS Rookie of the Year honors and Seattle’s Jhon Kennedy Hurtado holds the lead for New Acquisitions.
Not so MLS, but Yanks Abroad sort of count right? As the European transfer market approaches, we’ve already got our first taste of Oguchi Onyewu transfer rumors. This time it is EPL-bound Birmingham City and Wolves, apparently ready to duke it out for the big centreback. His valuation is around $4-5 million and, to be honest, a move to either one of these clubs would be a step up in my opinion. Both teams have the pieces to survive next season and Onyewu would most definitely be getting the starting nod day-in, day-out.
Maurice Edu, despite Rangers 1-1 slip-up yesterday, continues to impress over in Scotland. They can’t stop talking about him.
How about Dr. Don Garber? Not a doctor, you say? Well this Saturday he will be after SUNY Oneonta’s graduation. He’ll even address the pretty hefty student body, 1,500 strong. Somebody should throw streamers.
Please. Somebody tell John McGrath of The News Tribune that there is no way in hell the Shootout Format will be revived . If the Galaxy end up 1-1-28 then maybe we can talk.
Talk about an interrogation. Former MLS big man Ivan Gazidis recently held a Q&A session with the Arsenal Supporters’ Trust. To many there, he was impressive and maybe even alarmingly honest (not Schellas Hyndman honest, but damn close). He also went in to detail on helping forge the early roads of Major League Soccer. Oh yea, and he talked about a little club called Arsenal – touching on wage bills, new front office staff, transfer talk, shareholders, and much more. Read a recap at Gooner.
More to come at a quicker rate soon. I promise.
