Sons of Ben

The Sons of Ben is a 501(c) (3) Pennsylvania based non-profit, membership organization.

The Sons of Ben, founded in January 2007, exists to support and develop the Delaware Valley soccer community. Through active, grassroots support, the Sons of Ben helped establish the momentum leading to the creation of the Philadelphia Union of Major League Soccer (MLS) and the Philadelphia Independence of the Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS) league. In forging a relationship with Chester City, Delaware County and Pennsylvania State political leaders along with Major League Soccer, the vocal support of the group directly influenced the decision to award Philadelphia with an MLS franchise.

The Sons of Ben have provided a social outlet for soccer supporters to share common interests and be part of a larger community of sports fans in the 4th largest American media market. The organization has grown to include over 5,000 members throughout Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, and around the world. The Sons of Ben have also grown to oversee the Delaware Valley Infantry, a US Soccer supporters group based in Philadelphia region, and the Daughters of Betsy, a Philadelphia Independence (WPS) supporters group.
Charitable and philanthropic efforts have been central to the Sons of Ben since its founding, as evidenced by annual initiatives supporting the Bernardine Center in Chester, PA through its Help Kick Hunger campaign and ongoing efforts to support various other organizations close to the Delaware Valley soccer community.

The coming months will start a new chapter in the organizations noteworthy story with many historical events marking the arrival of the Philadelphia Union, Philadelphia Independence and the Sons of Ben into the national spotlight.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I join?

Besides the fact that you’ll be giving your support to the greatest supporters’ club ever, there are a number of benefits:

  • The ability to get member pricing on tickets to Sons of Ben tailgates and roadtrips.
  • An SoB member package is sent with each membership.
  • We’re also working on a few other ideas, including member-exclusive events with Union players and staff and discounts at local businesses.

Where does the money go?

Since we’re a registered 501(c)(3) with a fully volunteer staff you can be assured that all the money collected goes to where it’s needed. Some of it goes to cover the costs of your membership premiums, most of it goes towards the things we need to be a successful supporters’ club – banners, flags, grills, coolers, tents, smoke bombs, road trips, etc. We also make donations to local charities as part of our mission.

How long will my membership card and premium take to arrive?

All memberships are processed by volunteers and may take 4-6 weeks to arrive, or occasionally longer if there's a hiccup in the shipping process. Your best bet is to join before the season; we'll let you know what the cutoff is each year so that you can get your gear before the first home game.  Your membership card will come from the Union, separate from your membership package.

Did you get my membership? I haven't heard from you!

Because we're all volunteers, we don't have the resources to individually email you when memberships are mailed out or when they're delayed.  You should receive confirmation from the Union upon successful payment of your membership fee.

What happened to my membership number from prior years?

With the transition of the payment process through the Union, we are no longer using membership numbers.  The number appearing on your membership card is your Union account number.

How do I get involved?

Just contact us using the form below, or by emailing  We're always looking for volunteers for tailgates, tifo, and other events.
