A Letter from Lorenzo Rivera

In looking back on the past 5 plus years, I’ve lost count of how many great times I have had with the Sons of Ben.  From starting out as a small group of passionate supports who just wanted a team, to taking a trip out to see our first match in Seattle, to the home opener of PPL Park, to the present time as we embark on new ground in the Sons of Ben lot; it’s been an incredible experience to have been a part of.  

I took a position on the Board of Directors back in 2010 running the Sons of Ben tailgates.  From there the organization has grown tremendously and I am proud of the incredible impact we’ve had through our effects to achieve our mission.  From growing soccer in America and in the Delaware Valley region, to cheering on the team in times of victory and defeat, to all of our philanthropy efforts within the City of Chester and beyond; I feel like I have been a part of something that is truly special and that I will never forget.  I’ve been a part of this incredible Sons of Ben family!  As your current Vice President, contributing to these efforts has been an absolute pleasure.  

Like the growth of the Sons of Ben organization, I’ve had growth in my personal life as well.  It takes a tremendous amount of time and dedication to run the activities of the Sons of Ben.  Because of this, I feel it is best for me and best for the organization that I step down as your Vice President.  This decision is hard for me to make, as much of the last 5 plus years has been spent being a part of the Sons of Ben board.  However, making this decision will allow someone to take the VP roll who has the ability to commit their full time and attention to the future of this incredible organization.

I am planning to stay involved as I always have been.  You will still see me setting up and helping with tailgates, roadtrips and events.  I will be remaining an active part of the leadership as a Consultant so that the mission of this organization, from where we started to wherever we end up remains strong.  I have every bit of confidence in the leadership team we have on the current Board of Directors.  

I would like to say a special thank you to all of those who have served and are currently servicing on the Sons of Ben board.  It is a major commitment to make and serving with you all has been an honor and privilege.  I want to also say thank you to all of our members for your continued support and participation.  Thank you for believing in this organization like I do and thank you for all the amazing past and future memories!  I look forward to a great 2015 season and to a very bright future for the amazing organization!
