2020 Board Elections
As you may know, Election season is upon us and it’s time to get ready to elect members to the Board of Directors. If you are interested in any of these positions, please email VP Jess Gusler at jess.gusler@sonsofben.com or info@sonsofben.com. Also a note of clarity since I (Ryan) have had to answer these question a lot over the years, these positions are volunteer-only and open to all membership!
President:
This position oversees each position on the Sons of Ben Board and will step in to fulfill the duties of any Board member who cannot.
The President is the general manager of the Sons of Ben and has, subject to the control of the Board, general supervision, direction and control of the business, activities and officers of the Sons of Ben. The President has the general powers and duties of management usually vested in the office of president and general manager of a non-profit and such other powers and duties as may be prescribed by the Board. Among other things, the President shall be responsible for:
• Ensuring the organization’s activities are compliant and in furtherance of its mission
• Leading, managing, and developing the organization’s board members, volunteers, and organizational culture
• Developing, implementing, monitoring, and assessing the organization’s programs (including their impact)
• Developing, implementing, monitoring, and assessing sound and compliant financial management practices (including budgeting)
• Developing, informing, and supporting the board and the board committees to carry out their mission
• Serve as Liaison with the Philadelphia Union
• Ensuring effective external communications about the organization and its mission, priorities, importance, programs, and activities
• Championing the organization and advocating its mission to internal and external persons
• Keeping informed and the organization’s leadership informed of significant developments and changes in the internal and external environment
• Leading the organization’s planning processes
• Ensuring legal compliance (including all required filings) and sound risk management practices
• Developing and implementing planning and strategies for enhancing the organization’s brand
Secretary:
• Schedule and manage posts via Hootsuite
• Communicate with members via social media accounts and respond to questions/comments/inquiries/etc.
• Gather/organize new information from other board members and create weekly emails via mailchimp
• Post real time photos/video to social media channels during game days
• Maintain notes from SoB Board meetings and prepare them for possible dissemination to the Membership
Membership:
• Maintain an updated and accurate membership list
• Develop, arrange assembly, and ensure delivery of membership packages and cards throughout the year
• Communicate with members and answer questions about memberships, as well as troubleshoot problem areas such as unreceived cards or packages
• Work with SoB leadership and vendors and other businesses to develop partnerships that will benefit the members
At Large/Merchandise:
• Be available on gamedays and/or special events to assist in planning or implementation
• Complete related tasks and responsibilities as needed or requested by the Board
• Maintain a working knowledge and understanding of the responsibilities of the various Board departments in the event interim management is needed
• Responsible for ordering new and restocking old merchandise as needed.
• Maintain a working relationship with our vendors.
• Organizing and keeping inventory of merch in the trailer.
• Help create new designs.
Tifo:
• The Tifo Director will oversee the creation, development, and implementation of SoB Tifo, including, but not limited to, banners, signs, posters, songs and chants and other game day displays.
• The Tifo Director will serve as the head of the Gameday committee and will be responsible for organization and ongoing direction of the committee.
• The Director will designate appropriate support in their absence.
• The Tifo Director may produce Tifo for other groups and organizations outside the SoB and the discretion of the President.
• The Tifo Director will keep materials stocked.
