2012 River Cup Recap

Chester, PA – Philadelphia Union front office staff squared off against the Union’s supporters club the Son’s of Ben Sunday night at PPL Park for the 2nd Annual River Cup. The origin of the match started with the Sons of Ben asking to play on the pitch at PPL Park, it then turned into a challenge of supporters verses coaches and staff of the Union. Last year’s River Cup helped raise over $25,000 for local youth soccer club Chester City United. This year’s charity was the Philadelphia Union Foundation.

2013 Help Kick Hunger Recap

Saturday’s Sons of Ben-organized Help Kick Hunger charity at McFaddens at Citizen’s Bank Park was a huge success. $8,300 was raised at the event, which featured appearances from the Philadelphia Union’s Brian Carroll, Zach Pfeffer and Jimmy McLaughlin. River Cup Update: Rosters announced for July 15 charity match

Philadelphia Union and the Sons of Ben, the club’s supporters group, released today their official rosters for the inaugural River Cup that will take place at PPL Park on July 15. The charity event will feature some of the Union’s ownership including Jay Sugarman (Chairman), Nick Sakiewicz (CEO & Operating Partner) and Rob Buccini (investor) as well as executives and technical staff including Peter Nowak (Team Manager/Executive Vice President of Soccer Operations), John Hackworth (Coach), Rob Vartughian (Assistant Coach/Goalkeeper Coordinator) and Brendan Burke (Reserve Team Head Coach and Assistant Youth Director).

Philadelphia Union Staff to Play the Sons of Ben in the Inaugural ‘River Cup’

Philadelphia Union’s staff will square off against the Sons of Ben, the team’s supporters club, in their inaugural River Cup charity match at PPL Park on July 15, the two organizations jointly announced today. The 6:30 p.m. game will benefit one of the Union’s community partners, Chester City United, with all proceeds going to the local youth soccer organization.
