Tony Messina
Hi SoB’s. My name is Tony Messina. My family and I have been season ticket holders since 2017 and we have been Sons of Ben since 2018. Most of the members of the Sons of Ben who I know and have become friendly with are people I met through the SoB tailgates, where my wife, my son, and I have been volunteers in various capacities for the last 5 years. You can mostly find us setting up or working the check-in at the tailgates.
I have a love for the sport of soccer for a very long time. I was a NJ All-State midfielder in 1979. Back then, I was playing for Lenape Valley Regional High School in Stanhope, NJ. When my older sons were growing up, around the early 2000’s, I was an assistant coach in Roxbury Township in northern NJ, and more recently, I have been coaching youth soccer in south Jersey for the past 11 years in Penns Grove. I coached the Penns Grove Storm for 10 years and in that time, we moved from the lowest division to the highest division and won 2 championships along the way. This year, I stepped in and took over coaching a new team of U14 players. My new team, Penns Grove Rage, is currently in first place in our division. Finally, I serve as Vice President of Penns Grove Soccer Club and I am a league representative for South Jersey Soccer League, where I served on the rules committee.
I have made a lot of friends and met some great people through soccer and through being involved with and a part of the Sons of Ben. I look forward to working with the organization to help it to grow and improve as we support our boys in blue, our Philadelphia Union.
